DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) treatment systems is a high-tech physical-chemical treatment system used especially in industries such as textile, slaughterhouse, dairy and dairy products, chemistry, oil refineries, and paper industries, which contain intense amounts of suspended solids (SS), free and emulsified oil-grease, and colloidal matters in their wastewater.
Particles whose density is very close to water and therefore take hours to settle or do not settle at all in traditional gravity settling basins are floated to the water surface via micro air bubbles (flotation) and separated from the water in seconds in our DAF systems.
The heart of the DAF system is the special "Saturation System" and "Micro Bubble Nozzles".
A portion of the clean water taken from the facility outlet is pumped into a pressure tank via a high-pressure saturation pump, where high-pressure air is injected to saturate the water with air (under 4-6 bars).
When this air-saturated water is released into the flotation chamber at the inlet of the DAF tank, with the sudden drop in pressure to the atmosphere, the dissolved air in the water is released as millions of micro bubbles with diameters ranging between 10-50 µm (microns).
These micro bubbles attach to the oil and solid particles floccated (agglomerated) with coagulant and polymer chemicals dosed to the system beforehand, lifting them rapidly towards the water surface.
A thick sludge/oil layer (floating sludge) forms on the upper surface of the DAF tank.
A chain-driven linear flight scraper mechanism continuously scrapes this layer and transfers it to the sludge hopper.
The clear water remaining below separates from the system. Our DAF systems tremendously lighten the load of subsequent biological treatment units with an oil-grease and SS removal performance of over 95%.
